Moments on the Trail: A call for photo submissions

The Mountain Bluebird Trails Conservation Society thrives because of the dedication of volunteers and supporters who share their time, talents and passion for conservation.

Among those who have made a special contribution is Martin Hensel, whose photography has enriched our online gallery and given our members and visitors a chance to see the beauty of the bluebird trail through his eyes.

Martin has been submitting photographs that capture the life and vibrancy of Mountain Bluebirds in every stage of life, the prairie landscapes that sustain them, and the moments of quiet wonder that many of us treasure when we’re out monitoring nest boxes. His images do more than document — they inspire. They remind us of the delicate balance of nature and the powerful role each person can play in helping these remarkable birds thrive.

We want to take this opportunity not only to thank Martin for his ongoing contributions but also to encourage everyone in our community to do the same. Whether you’re an experienced photographer with professional equipment or someone who simply snaps a quick picture on your phone while visiting a trail, your perspective matters. Each image helps tell the story of bluebird conservation in southern Alberta and beyond.

Submitting photos is simple. Just visit our gallery page at bluebirdtrails.org/photos and upload your images.

We welcome a wide variety of content: bluebirds, swallows, nest box activity, prairie wildlife, landscapes, and the volunteers who keep this work going. The gallery is more than a collection of pictures — it’s a living record of conservation in action, created by our members for the benefit of all.

Together, we can build a vibrant visual history that reflects not just the success of our trails but the joy of being part of them. Thank you, Martin, for leading the way and showing us the power of a shared image.
